Background:
Plexins are a family of large integral membrane proteins that complex with neuropilins to form semaphorin co-receptors. Plexin A1 and its co-receptor Neuropilin 1 bind Sema-3A leading to collapse of neuronal axon growth cones. The expression of Plexin-A1 and its co-receptor is upregulated in neurons after central nervous system injury, and the Sema-3A activation of Plexin-A1 and Neuropilin-1 co-receptors may have significant roles in suppressing axon regeneration after neuronal injury. Plexin-B1 is expressed as a 300 kDa precursor protein that can be cleaved into a 200 kDa a-subunit and a 100 kDa b-subunit. This plexin is the receptor for the class IV semaphorin, Sema-4D, and the Sema-4D/Plexin B1 pathway may be involved in cell survival, cell migration, and angiogenesis. Plexin D1 is a type I transmembrane protein that may be expressed as multiple isoforms in many cell types, including neurons and endothelial cells. Semaphorin 3E (Sema-3E) and semaphorin 4A can bind Plexin D1 leading to phosphorylation of Tyr-1642 and activation of Plexin D1. The Sema3E/Plexin D1 pathway may have important roles in angiogenesis and metastasis.
Buffer/Storage:
Rabbit polyclonal antibodies are supplied in phosphate-buffered saline, 50% glycerol, 1 mg/ml BSA, and 0.05% sodium azide. Store all at –20°C. Stable for 1 year.
