Sodium Bicarbonate Buffer 1M, pH 10.0

The bicarbonate buffer contains anhydrous sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) and Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) mixed in a foxed ratio in distilled water. The desired pH may be adjusted with NaOH or HCl. The bicarbonate buffering system is important for several different cellular processes. It is one of the major buffering systems used to maintain the pH of mammalian blood and is also important in the acid-base homeostasis of living things, including humans. It tends to maintain a relatively constant plasma pH and counteract any force that would alter it. It is used to neutralize the pH of the chyme leaving the stomach and entering the small intestine.
