Protein Family: Chaperones and Folding Catalysts

Pathway and Disease: Cell Growth and Death, Nervous and Sensory Systems

Alternate Names: 14-3-3-Gamma, Protein kinase C inhibitor protein 1, KCIP-1Description:
14-3-3-Gamma is an adapter protein implicated in the regulation of a large spectrum of both general and specialized signaling pathways. 14-3-3-Gamma binds to a large number of partners, usually by recognition of a phosphoserine or phosphothreonine motif. Binding generally results in the modulation of the activity of the binding partner. Recombinant 14-3-3 gamma comprises a 246 amino acid fragment (2-247) corresponding to the 14-3-3 gamma coding sequence and is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag.
