Background:
This gene encodes proteins related to the first discoveredblood group system, ABO. Which allele is present in an individualdetermines the blood group. The 'O' blood group is caused by adeletion of guanine-258 near the N-terminus of the protein whichresults in a frameshift and translation of an almost entirelydifferent protein. Individuals with the A, B, and AB allelesexpress glycosyltransferase activities that convert the H antigeninto the A or B antigen. Other minor alleles have been found forthis gene.
Other Names:
Histo-blood group ABO system transferase, Fucosylglycoprotein 3-alpha-galactosyltransferase, Fucosylglycoprotein alpha-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase, Glycoprotein-fucosylgalactoside alpha-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase, Glycoprotein-fucosylgalactoside alpha-galactosyltransferase, Histo-blood group A transferase, A transferase, Histo-blood group B transferase, B transferase, NAGAT, Fucosylglycoprotein alpha-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase soluble form, ABO
Gene Name: ABO
Gene ID: 28
Primary Accession: P16442
Format: Peptides are lyophilized in a solid powder format. Peptides can be reconstituted in solution using the appropriate buffer as needed.
