Protein Family: Cytokines
Pathway and Disease: Metabolic Disorders, Endocrine System, Energy Metabolism
Description:
Adiponectin is an adipokine involved in the control of fat metabolism and insulin sensitivity, with direct anti-diabetic, anti-atherogenic and anti-inflammatory activities. Adiponectin stimulates AMPK phosphorylation and activation in the liver and the skeletal muscle, enhancing glucose utilization and fatty-acid combustion. Defects in adiponectin are the cause of adiponectin deficiency (ADPND). ADPND results in very low concentrations of plasma adiponectin. Genetic variations in adiponectin are associated with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), also known as diabetes mellitus type 2. NIDDM is characterized by an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance, onset during adulthood and insulin resistance.
Alternate Names: Adiponectin, Adipocyte, C1q and collagen domain-containing protein, 30 kDa adipocyte complement-related protein, Adipocyte complement-related 30 kDa protein, ACRP30, Adipose most abundant gene transcript 1 protein, apM-1, Gelatin-binding protein, ADIPOQ, ACDC, APM1, GBP28
Application Notes: E: 1:20,000-1:80,000; WB: 1:200-1:1,000; IHC: 1:100-1:500
Accession No.: Q15848
Antigen: KLH-conjugated synthetic peptide encompassing a sequence within the C-term region of human adiponectin.
Format: Each vial contains 0.1 mg IgG in 0.1 ml (1 mg/ml) of PBS pH7.4 with 0.09% sodium azide. Antibody was purified by Protein-G affinity chromatography.
