Description:
Serum albumin is the major plasma protein, and therefore regulates the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. It also has a high capacity for binding water, calcium, sodium, potassium, fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin and drugs. Defects in serum albumin are a cause of familial dysalbuminemic hyperthyroxinemia (FDH), a form of euthyroid hyperthyroxinemia that is due to increased affinity of albumin for T(4).
