Background:
This gene is a member of the cytidine deaminase genefamily. It is one of seven related genes or pseudogenes found in acluster, thought to result from gene duplication, on chromosome 22.Members of the cluster encode proteins that are structurally andfunctionally related to the C to U RNA-editing cytidine deaminaseAPOBEC1. The protein encoded by this gene lacks the zinc bindingactivity of other family members. The protein plays a role inimmunity, by restricting transmission of foreign DNA such asviruses. One mechanism of foreign DNA restriction is deamination offoreign double-stranded DNA cytidines to uridines, which leads toDNA degradation. However, other mechanisms are also thought to beinvolved, as anti-viral effect is not dependent on deaminaseactivity. One allele of this gene results from the deletion ofapproximately 29.5 kb of sequence between this gene, APOBEC3A, andthe adjacent gene APOBEC3B. The breakpoints of the deletion arewithin the two genes, so the deletion allele is predicted to havethe promoter and coding region of APOBEC3A, but the 3' UTR ofAPOBEC3B.
Other Names:
DNA dC->dU-editing enzyme APOBEC-3A, A3A, 354-, Phorbolin-1, APOBEC3A
Target/Specificity:
The synthetic peptide sequence is selected from aa 35-49 of HUMAN APOBEC3A
Gene Name: APOBEC3A
Gene ID: 100913187;200315
Primary Accession: P31941
Other Accession: NP_663745.1
Format: Peptides are lyophilized in a solid powder format. Peptides can be reconstituted in solution using the appropriate buffer as needed.
