The BIRC3 (also known as API2) apoptosis inhibitor gene, located on chromosome 11q22, is commonly expressed in chronic lymphocytic leukemia, multiple myeloma, breast cancer, uterine sarcoma, lymphoma (mantle-cell), and MALT lymphoma. The probe can be used to detect rearrangements at the BIRC3 locus at 11q21 consequent to the reciprocal t(11;18)(q21;q21) involving the BIRC3 and MALT1 gene regions.
