Burkholderia Cepacia Selective Agar (USP)

Burkholderia Cepacia Selective Agar (BCSA) USP is an agar medium recommended for the selective and differential isolation of Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc). B.cepacia is an important pathogen in pulmonary infections in patients with cystic fibrosis, and BCSA was devised for isolation of the organism from respiratory secretions of patients to be tested under research laboratory conditions. In 1997, Henry et al. 1 formulated a highly selective medium to improve the speed and accuracy of B.cepacia complex isolation and to provide quantitative recovery. This product is formulated according to USP <60>.
