CGP-39 (Chitinase-3-like protein 1) is a carbohydrate-binding lectin with a preference for chitin. CGP-39 plays a role in defense against pathogens and in tissue remodeling. CGP-39 plays an important role in the capacity of cells to respond to and cope with changes in their environment. A genetic variation in CGP-39 is associated with susceptibility to asthma-related traits type 7 (ASRT7).
