Description: EZH2 (enhancer of zeste homologue 2) or KMT6 or Enx1, is a polycomb group (PcG) protein. Catalytic subunit of the PRC2/EED-EZH2 complex, which methylates 'Lys-9' and 'Lys-27' of histone H3, leading to transcriptional repression of the affected target gene. EZH2 is ubiquitously expressed during early embryo genesis, and becomes restricted to the central and peripheral nervous systems and sites of fetal hematopoiesis during later development. EZH2 and BMI-1 genes are coexpressed in Reed-Sternberg cells of Hodgkin’s disease. Coexpression of BMI-1 and EZH2 is also associated with cycling cells and degree of malignancy in B-cell non-Hogkin’s lymphoma.
