Protein Family: Cytokines
Pathway and Disease: Signaling Molecules and Interaction, Immune System
Alternate Names: Fractalkine, C-X3-C motif chemokine 1, CX3C membrane-anchored chemokine, Neurotactin, Small-inducible cytokine D1Description:
The soluble form of fractalkine is a chemotactic factor for T-cells and monocytes, but not for neutrophils. The membrane-bound form promotes adhesion of leukocytes to endothelial cells. Fractalkine plays a role in regulating leukocyte adhesion and migration processes at the endothelium, and it binds to CX3CR1. Recombinant fractalkine comprises a 76 amino acid fragment (25-100) corresponding to the chemokine domain of the human fractalkine protein and is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag.
