Specific detection of Candida auris
C. auris is an emerging global health threat.1 Since its isolation in 2009, there have been cases reported in at least 15 countries over 5 continents. Transmissible in healthcare settings, C. auris can cause outbreaks and is often multi-drug resistant. While some laboratory methods misidentify the organism, Bruker’s MALDI Biotyper® is authorized by the FDA for use in the unambiguous identification of Candida auris, upon isolation of the organism. PCR also shows promise as a sensitive and specific tool for C. auris detection. By providing rapid results without isolation of the organism, Candida auris PCR could prove advantageous for infection control and patient management.
The Fungiplex Candida Auris assay is designed to rapidly detect the presence of C. auris DNA extracted directly from samples, without culture. Fungiplex Candida Auris is specific for C. auris and does not cross-react with other, closely-related, Candida species.
