Protein Family: Cytokines

Pathway and Disease: Cancers, Folding, Sorting and Degradation, Immune System, Infectious Diseases, Metabolic Disorders, Signal Transduction

Alternate Names: interferon gamma, IFN-gamma, immune interferon, IFNGDescription:
Interferon gamma (IFN-gamma) is the major interferon produced by stimulated lymphocytes. IFN-gamma is structurally different from type I interferon and its major activity is immunoregulation. It has been implicated in the expression of class II histocompatibility antigens in cells that do not normally produce them, leading to autoimmune disease. IFN-gamma is mainly produced by T-cells and natural killer cells activated by antigens, mitogens, or alloantigens. It is produced by lymphocytes expressing the surface antigens CD4 and CD8. The synthesis of IFN-gamma is induced by Interleukin-2, FGF-basic, and EGF. It is a potent activator of macrophages, has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells, and potentiates the antiviral and antitumor effects of type I interferons. Recombinant Murine IFN-gamma produced in E. coli is a single non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 134 amino acids with a MW of 15,601 Da.

Source: E. coli. Endotoxin level as measured by LAL is <0.01ng/ug or <0.1EU/ug.

Applications: E, WB

Application Notes:
Recombinant Mouse Interferon gamma is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The specific activity as determined in a viral challenge assay using EMC virus on L929 cells is 1.3 x 107 Units/mg. The corresponding ED50 is 0.61 ng/ml.

Purity:
Purity > 95% as determined by RP-HPLC and reducing and non-reducing SDS-PAGE. Protein Content determined by UV spectroscopy at 280 nm and analysis by RP-HPLC calibrated against a known standard. Quantitation on SDS-PAGE against a known standard.

Format:
Each vial contains 100 ug lyophilized protein. Reconstitute with 1.0 ml sterile deionized water for a final concentration of 0.1 mg/ml.

Storage: Store at -20°C. Product is guaranteed one year from the date of shipment. Following reconstitution, store at -20°C. We recommend to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) for long term storage.
