The Insulin-Like Growth Factor 2 MRNA Binding Protein 3 (IGF2BP3) gene, located at 7p15.3, is an oncofetal protein that has a negative prognostic influence that is re-activated in a variety of cancers. IGF2BP3 is expressed in ~98% of serous carcinomas. It is also associated with ovarian clear cell carcinoma, Pilomyxoid astrocytoma (PMA), most recently categorized as a pediatric brain tumor, as well as adenocarcinoma in situ which is the precursor to cervical cancer.
