Protein Family: Cytokines
Pathway and Disease: Signal Transduction; Signaling Molecules and Interaction; Endocrine System
Alternate Names: leptin, obesity factor, obese protein, LEPDescription:
Leptin inhibits food intake and stimulates energy expenditure. Leptin also has thermogenic actions and regulates enzymes of fatty acid oxidation. Severe hereditary obesity in rodents and humans is caused by defects in leptin production. In addition to its critical role in the physiologic regulation of body weight leptin has a variety of other physiologic and pathologic functions resembling those of cytokines. These functions include the regulation of hematopoiesis, angiogenesis, wound healing, inflammation, and immune responses. Recombinant human Leptin produced in E. coli is a single non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 147 amino acids with a MW of 16 kDa.
Source: E. coli. Endotoxin level as measured by LAL is <0.01ng/ug or <0.1EU/ug.
Applications: E, WB
Application Notes:
Human Recombinant Leptin is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50, calculated by the leptin-dependent stimulation of Human OB-R transfected mouse BaF/3 proliferation, is 1.36 ng/ml.
Accession No.: P41159
MW: 16000 Da
Sequence:
MVPIQKVQDD TKTLIKTIVT RINDISHTQS VSSKQKVTGL DFIPGLHPIL TLSKMDQTLA VYQQILTSMP SRNVIQISND LENLRDLLHV LAFSKSCHLP WASGLETLDS LGGVLEASGY STEVVALSRL QGSLQDMLWQ LDLSPGC
Purity:
Purity > 95% as determined by RP-HPLC and reducing and non-reducing SDS-PAGE. Protein Content determined by UV spectroscopy at 280 nm and analysis by RP-HPLC calibrated against a known standard. Quantitation on SDS-PAGE against a known standard.
Format:
Each vial contains 1 mg of lyophilized protein. Reconstitute with 1.0 ml sterile deionized water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml.
Storage: Store at -20°C. Product is guaranteed one year from the date of shipment. Following reconstitution, store at -20°C. We recommend to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) for long term storage.
Pathway and Disease: Signal Transduction; Signaling Molecules and Interaction; Endocrine System
