The MDM4 FISH Probe is used to detect MDM4 gene aneusomy.
The MDM4 gene, located at chromosome 1q32.1, is a P53 regulator gene that follows a similar pathway to MicroRNAs in cancer. P53 is a tumor suppressor protein that is frequently mutated. When MDM4 is overexpressed it makes P53 more attractive targets for mutation. Overexpression and mutation of MDM4 is associated with breast cancer, soft tissue sarcoma, retinoblastoma, and glioblastoma.
