The SMARCB1 gene, located on chromosome 22q11, is a tumor suppressor gene. Loss of function of SMARCB1 due to deletions or mutations are commonly associated with malignant rhabdoid tumors, as well as renal medullary carcinoma, epithelioid sarcoma, and poorly differentiated sarcoma. About a third of rhabdoid tumor patients share germline mutations and deletions of SMARCB1, that expose them to RT as well as schwannomatosis.
